[UNBOXING] Loot Crate – January 2016 – INVASION!

seems like it’s been ninety years since i’ve done an unboxing video / post but the thing is, none of my usual goes for subscription boxes have been jumping out at me until Loot Crate came out with their INVASION! box for this month [January 2016] and i was pretty much hooked on all the things that they were going to include [Space Invaders, Alien, The X-Files and The Fifth Element]

subscription boxes for me are definitely hit or miss and i’d hate to spend the money and be completely and utterly disappointed in it. that’s why i’m super wary with surprises.

Loot Crate actually spoiled two of the items in the box [facehugger plush and the X-Files shirt] in their last few emails before the box wasn’t able to be ordered anymore.

if you didn’t view the quick and dirty item video above or just would like bigger pictures and a bit more explaining….ONWARD TO THE BLOG POST!

Some changes with Loot Crates this year are that there’s going to be a shirt in every box and that the pins unlock exclusive “DLC”. this month’s pin unlocks a digital issue of Letter 44 #1.

i literally sat and looked at the box and wondered WHY THE FACEHUGGER WAS CUTE AND SMILING. facehuggers are not cute and they certainly do not smile. the rubber band? i thought that was a complete accidental drop into the box until i read the Loot Crate magazine and figured out that it was for to take that defective facehugger and rubberband it to your face.

LEELOO DALLAS. MULTIPASS. this is a officially licensed prop replica of Leeloo’s Multipass [obviously.] from The Fifth Element. i’m unsure as to if i’m going to take it out of its packaging to hang it up. it’d also make a fantastic cosplay prop. am i going to cosplay Leeloo? maybe someday. *shrug*

The X-Files came back on TV this past Sunday. unfortunately what i thought was going to be a full-season relaunch is just a six-part special. sadface. Loot Crate included a mini X-Files flashlight [which i am unsure if it plays the theme song if you turn it on… think that would be pretty awesome though. haha!] and the shirt of the month was X-Files themed which i wore on last Sunday night for the first episode.

WHO DIDN’T LOVE SPACE INVADERS AS A KID??? [or adult!]

doot doot doot doot doot….

this mini vinyl figure found a little space on my desk to hang out.

and last! but certainly not least, i got two mini prints of The War of the Worlds and The Day The Earth Stood Still artwork! super neat.

OVERALL VERDICT:

5 OUT OF 5 paws up!

I Need to Yell…

and i need to yell in particular on how shitty and fucked up America’s healthcare system is….

the ER visit claim to Medicare finally came through from my kidney infection, and i’ve been dreading it for good reason.

let me break it down for you:

12 0 0001 – Total Charges $6233.00

over four thousand fucking dollars for a CAT scan just to make sure i didn’t have kidney stones.

the ER visit itself is even cheaper!

and you know the kicker?

1 74176 – Ct Scan Of Abdomen And Pelvis 1 01/11/2016 01/11/2016 $630.00 $93.94 $93.94 $0.00 $93.94

this is a separate claim filed by the CAT Scan technician, so not only is the hospital wanting money from the CT, THE FUCKING TECHNICIAN WANTS MONEY. i am responsible for the $93.94.

i’m not entirely sure how much of the ER visit i am responsible for yet, i’ll probably find out when the bill comes in the mail because all it says online is “see claim”. Medicare denied like $400 of the claim [some of the IV drugs were denied] but i already decided they can shove it all up their ass and they’re only getting $50 a month, interest-free.

i’m also not crowdfunding this, so please do not ask to donate towards my bills. i’ve already accepted this as my expensive lesson and i’m going to pay it, no matter how long it takes.

so people who do not have insurance? us people with insurance are pretty much right there with you. it honestly doesn’t matter if you have it or not because your insurance is just going to pay pennies towards your provides and then stick you with the rest of it.

[Saturday 9] Don’t You Care?

1) What’s something that seems to fascinate everyone else, but you just don’t care about?

Doctor Who

2) The lyrics refer to “the times we cried and laughed.” Which did you do more recently, cry or laugh?

laugh

3) In the song, our hero seems surprised that his girlfriend doesn’t believe him. Are you more believing and trusting, or suspicious and skeptical?

suspicious and skeptical until proven otherwise. i’ve had my trust broken WAY too many times

4) This song is just over two minutes long, which seems short for a song but awful long when Sam is waiting for her chicken soup to heat in the microwave. What’s the last thing you heated in a microwave?

bacon, egg, and cheese Hot Pocket for breakfast. probably completely and utterly terrible for you but hey….chronic illness. at least i’m eating

5) This week’s band, The Buckinghams, were one of the first acts to perform at Chicago’s premiere summer festival, The Taste of Chicago.* Let’s think ahead: Have you made any plans for Summer 2016?

it’s not technically Summer until later on in June but i’m going to AnimeNEXT as usual. it’s moved to Atlantic City and i’ve heard good things about the new location since AC Boardwalk Con was held in the same spot and people absolutely loved it. can’t knock it until you try it and i don’t want to see one of my state’s towns completely go belly up so we cosplayers [and non-cosplayers alike] hope our geekiness pumps it spmewhat of revenue

6) In 1967, when this song was popular, Rolling Stone magazine published its first issue. What magazines do you subscribe to? Do they arrive in the mail, or do you read them online?

i haven’t subscribed to a magazine in years

7) Country star/American Idol judge Keith Urban was born in 1967. Are you watching the final season of American Idol?

nope, never watched a single episode. don’t care for it

8) In 1967, the average cost of a movie ticket was $1.25. By 2015, it had risen $8.60. What’s the last movie you saw in a theater?

Minions. i was supposed to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Christmas Eve but my urinary issues kept me on the couch with a fever

9) Random question: Sam’s taking everyone out to dinner and she’s buying. Would you prefer the steak or the lobster?

lobster, please! as much as i also love steak, i don’t like that red meat sits in your digestive system for DAYS

On Being Emotionally Abused

i’ve talked about heavy topics in the past: being sexually assaulted, verbally abused, my on-going struggle with an eating disorder and overcoming self-harm but i never really spoke about the emotional abuse i deal with on a near-daily basis.

My own mother is my abuser.

my mother was often emotionally abused by my grandmother and the traits just passed right on down. i never really knew i was being emotionally abused until literally a few days ago. there was a couple posts on Tumblr that listed signs of emotional abuse and my mother’s habits just ticked almost every box and i have endured this since i was a teenager!

  • my parents have  fought violently, often right in front of me
  • my mother is -extremely- overprotective to the point where i don’t bother to leave the house. this has caused me extreme agoraphobia. i don’t leave the house because i don’t want to deal with the 9,000 questions that come with trying to spend time with friends.
  • my passions are made fun of, are considered “gross” or “weird”. cosplaying for me is an escape. to step out of my own head and into the head of a character. less noise i have to deal with.
  • i’m told often that “‘i’m too sensitive” that “i cry at the drop of a hat” it’s true, i do cry easily. but it is frustrating to be made fun of about it
  • i can never talk to my mother about things that are bothering me, in fear she’s going to lash out somehow. when we DO talk about things, it’s normally forced out of me.
  • “‘I’m only kidding,” doesn’t change the fact that it’s verbal abuse.

luckily, there is help.

i have an amazing support system that gets me through the day. G is almost always on call if i need an escape and luckily i do not get the 9k question thing when going out with G.

some day i’ll get out of this abusive household and into a loving one, with my partner by my side, our fluffy children and i won’t have to hear that bullshit anymore.

and people wonder why i have trust issues.
